Jr/Sr High International Baccalaureate
A prestigious international curriculum and community service distinguish
this established neighborhood school. Middle and high school students
can pursue advanced studies and earn college credit participating in
the International Baccalaureate program — the most rigorous college
preparatory program in the school district. The International Baccalaureate
(IB) program is an internationally recognized pre-university course of
study that incorporates an extensive liberal arts curriculum containing
humanities, social studies, foreign language, math and science.
Students in grades 7th through 10th follow a course of study in the International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme while high school students in 11th
and 12th grades work toward an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Colleges
and universities worldwide recognize the IB Diploma for its high standards
and challenging coursework. The International Baccalaureate program focuses
on fostering students who are book-smart and world literate with the
practical skills to succeed as responsible, productive individuals. Through
in-depth study and interdisciplinary course work, students develop an
appreciation for people, their languages and literature, history and
the physical world. Each student performs service hours in the school
and community to develop important life skills such as time management,
teamwork and how to achieve balance.
Students choose from a variety of courses and labs including Science
and Technology, Business, Clothing Production and Foods. A new auditorium
will stage music, drama and art events and house the performing arts
classes. An active campus during and after school, the majority
of students participate in multiple extra-curricular activities including
team sports, clubs, music and drama.
