Rockledge High School Cambridge Program

As part of the District’s focus on rigor, relevance and relationships, Rockledge High School has adopted the Advanced International Certificate in Education (AICE) program. AICE, part of the University of Cambridge’s Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) program, is a challenging, accelerated curriculum that is based on Britain’s A Level examinations. It is a four-year curriculum that progresses from two years of preparatory classes to entrance in the AICE diploma program.

The AICE diploma is an international, secondary education diploma that signifies the successful completion of the AICE curriculum. In order to earn the AICE diploma a student must pass six international examinations spread across three areas — Math and Science, Languages and Arts and Humanities. Students must pass at least one examination from each area and a total of six to earn the diploma. In addition to earning college credit for each examination passed, students who have earned the diploma will also automatically qualify for the full Bright Futures Scholarship.

Perhaps the most unique part of the AICE program is the flexibility of the curriculum. If a student’s strength is in math and science, the majority of the classes can be taken from this curricular area. If history and humanities are a strength, a student can focus on the arts and humanities area. The flexibility allows students to focus their secondary education on their particular strengths and areas of interest. This not only makes the information more relevant to the student, but also allows each to rigorously study subjects of interest. In addition, the AICE program has a vast array of course offerings that will allow students to individualize their educational experiences.

Overall, the AICE program will allow the students of Rockledge High School to gain not only a rigorous education but to develop an international perspective so that they may be effective members of the global community. Because of the high quality of the education and the flexibility it offers, the AICE program will prepare students for university life.
