West Melbourne Elementary School for Science

“ Hands On, Minds On Science for the Scientific Kid” defines this public school of choice. Students who have a natural born curiosity about the world are the perfect fit for this science-intensive curriculum that meets the Florida Sunshine State standards. Students unlock the science of everyday life in unique field experiences such as the Discovery Gardens — a living laboratory where children observe, interact and experiment. The school greenhouse also provides hands-on lessons in plant life and earth sciences. Students get excited about learning through special events such as the archeological dig and mystery festival.

Science lab, physical lab, skills lab, a media center and TV studio enhance classroom instruction with the technology and tools to create real-world projects. The school’s Music program includes Music class, Combo Art/Music class, Combo Music/Physical Education class, Chorus and Strings. Art and music projects complement science instruction by inspiring the imagination and creativity of students in science-based themes — such as the study of the South American rainforest. In a typical Art/Music Combo class, students stage a year-end production about a science research topic.

The school’s character education program creates an intellectually-challenging and nurturing environment to help students become good citizens of the world. Students learn to reach within themselves to discover and nurture the very best of their brains, personality, talents and ambitions. Generous grant funding secured by dedicated and innovative teachers provides many unique resources for the labs as well as experiences outside the classroom.
