Brevard County Magnet schools recognize that there are many ways of thinking,
which require different ways of teaching. Today’s learners are multi-taskers
deeply immersed in the digital age. They must master a broader set of literacies
beyond reading, writing and mathematics. To be fully literate in the language
of the 21st century, students need sharp visual-interpretation skills to interact
with the world analytically.
To achieve this visual literacy, Brevard County Magnet programs are focused on
technology and teaching methods that use not only the left-brain skills of traditional
words and numbers literacy but also the right-brain skills inherent in this visual
world of digital information. Through arts-infused and technology intense curriculums,
students express knowledge not only through words and numbers but also through
the many digital media and art forms. Each magnet school curriculum meets the
Sunshine State Standards for academic excellence set forth by the Florida Department
of Education.
Magnet programs match students’ abilities and interests with specific areas
of study including Science, Technology, and the Arts while integrating core academic
subjects with a theme unique to its curriculum. Brevard County Magnet Schools
attract students with focused interests, those seeking greater challenges and
students who don’t relate to traditional instruction.
Our innovative magnet programs attract motivated students, many who plan to attend
college. Through our Hope Chest scholarship program, select first graders at
our four elementary magnets may qualify for a two- or four-year scholarship to
college. The Hope Chest is funded by professional affiliates in our community
who are committed to identifying youngsters in need early and giving them a real
reason to dream big. Whether or not your child already attends a magnet school,
