Cambridge Elementary Magnet School of Arts and Science

Cambridge is a school in which science literally becomes Art in a curriculum that integrates the Visual and Performing Arts with Science and Technology. Teachers use the Different Ways of Knowing model of instruction to tap into the multiple intelligences of students and give each child the opportunity to express knowledge through the Arts. This 21st Century Learning Center comes with two parallel tracks for learning — the traditional 3 Rs of Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and the three Arts of Dance, Music and the Visual Arts. Students demonstrate their mastery of the curriculum through the arts by “Coming to Know, Showing You Know and Knowing You Know.” From mastering dance moves to designing robots, students use their right and left brains to master multiple literacies — media, sensory, art, academic and cultural.

Students engage in hands-on, inquiry based science investigation in a well-equipped science lab, the butterfly garden, flower/vegetable gardens, green house, weather station and aquatic ecosystems. Partnering with community science agencies such as NASA, Florida Solar Energy Center and Brevard Community College Planetarium allows the students to have wonderful resources for science research and development.

As a Florida Music Demonstration School, students participate in hands-on music labs using keyboards, Orff instruments and African Tubano Drums to learn music theory. Music composition is taught using high-level software which allows the students to actually publish their own work. The chorus, orchestra and dance ensembles provide the students with the opportunities to use their own talents to excel in the areas of music performance.
