Endeavour Elementary Magnet School
of Science and Integrated Technology

Plants, animals, science and space become living textbooks for sensory-based learning at Endeavour. This hands-on approach helps students make real connections between academic concepts and real life. Students experience what they learn through regular field trips, live animal encounters and interactive projects. Because real intelligence comes from connecting the big picture, Endeavour takes a thematic approach to learning, building academic concepts around a topic of interest such as sea beans or planets. This Integrated Thematic Instruction model provides “being there” experiences — whether at the beach or in a museum — that give students common ground for understanding.

Gardening and animal care are daily experiences at Endeavour. Here, students feed and care for rabbits and chickens and cultivate the vertical hydroponics garden. Pre-K and kindergarten students have their own gardens to learn ABCs and basic science. Fifth grade students attend Brevard Zoo School for a nine-week session through a special grant-funded program. All students can participate in Zoo Explorers, an after-school program at the zoo that helps improve student learning.

The school’s Intelligent Classrooms provide a wide range of high-tech instructional tools including interactive whiteboards, projectors, an interactive sound system, Interwrite School Pads and computer labs. Because the school is focused on whole-brain learning, the SMILE Lab is an important part of the curriculum that gets students moving to stimulate the right and left brain for better retention. The keyboard lab also fosters brain-based learning by teaching students to play music to enhance math and spatial reasoning skills.
