Elementary Magnet School (GEMS) At Gardendale Elementary Magnet School (GEMS), students learn in artistic and brain-friendly environments that focus on math, communication skills, the sciences and technology. This National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence is proud of its A+ grade from the Florida Department of Education. Students choose a field of specialization from four multi-disciplinary academic tracks: Math and Science; Microsociety; Arts and Cultures; and Performing Arts. Within these tracks, advanced students can take the Gifted/Accelerated classes. The School of Math and Science inspires young scientists with hands-on experiments to solve real world problems. Whether it’s designing house plans, budgeting a vacation, conducting flight experiments or participating in field trips to the Orlando Science Center, students see math and science at work. The School of Microsociety develops civic leaders and entrepreneurs. Students have their own post office, bank, court and senate to engage in simulated civic and work activities. Here, students learn about the daily functioning of the workforce through hands-on experience with real life job situations in the Microsociety Lab. The School of Arts and Cultures cultivates citizens of the world by developing an understanding and appreciation for global diversity through special projects, ethnic foods, music and art. In art labs, students take on art-related jobs such as photographers, storytellers, art assistants and yearbook editors. The “Artist in Residence” program brings in a guest artist to offer insight into the Visual Arts as a career. The School of Performing Arts lets each of the three grade levels focus on a different aspect of the performing arts including musical theater production, puppetry and scriptwriting. All students learn keyboarding skills and can participate in Elite Singing Group, chorus, band and string ensemble. 301 Grove Blvd, Merritt Island, FL 32953 • Tel (321) 452-1411 Click to view website |
