Florida A+ Opportunity Scholarship Program

“ This program offers tuition grants, also known as Opportunity Scholarships, to students in poor performing schools to get the education they deserve. Any student is eligible, in grades kindergarten through 12th, who attends or is assigned to a Florida school that has consistently received a failing grade from the Florida Department of Education. An “F” school means that children are not learning to read, write and do math at their grade level. The Florida A+ Opportunity Scholarship gives students attending an “F” school the option of transferring to another school. Eligible students receive a voucher or scholarship to attend a private school or public school that has a grade “C” or higher.

The Florida Department of Education grades schools annually on the basis of student performance on tests, attendance, school discipline and dropout rates. The average scholarship size is approximately $4,200. No scholarship can exceed the cost of a private school’s tuition and fees, including transportation.
